Who Can Join?

The WMAIA offers membership to registered architects and other interested eligible parties, including allied professionals (interior design professionals, construction professionals, vendors and suppliers of architectural elements) and students.

Membership Types

AIA ARCHITECT membership is available to architects registered anywhere within the United States.
2020 Architect Application_WMAIA

ASSOCIATE AIA membership is available to those holding a degree in architecture and working toward registration or those who work under the supervision of a registered architect.
2020 Associate Application_WMAIA

NEW GRADUATE For new graduates, Associate AIA dues are waived for the first year after graduation. Choose one of the following applications:

INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATE AIA membership is available to those U.S. residents licensed for architecture by a non-U.S. authority.
2020 International Associate Application

>AFFILIATE WMAIA (community) membership is available to those individuals or corporations who share an interest in architecture, or to professional colleagues without architectural degrees.
WMAIA Affiliate Application

>TRANSFER membership, for those transferring their membership from another AIA chapter.
2020 WMAIA-AIA Transfer Form

EMERITUS membership is available to any Architect or Associate Architect member who has been in good standing in the Institute for fifteen successive years immediately prior to his or her application, and either (i) has attained the age of 70 and is retired from the profession of architecture, or (ii) is so incapacitated as to be unable to work in the profession.

FINANCIAL HARDSHIP waivers are available and cover up to one year and may be granted in several consecutive years. Medical disability, sabbatical and family leave waivers are annual and renewable upon request for up to a total of four consecutive years.

STUDENT membership is available to full time students interested in or studying architecture.

HONORARY MEMBERSHIP
Every two years, the WMAIA Executive Committee nominates and awards two honorary memberships to people who are not WMAIA members and who have, over the course of a length of personal or professional time, made significant contributions to architecture and the built environment.

PROGRAM DISCOUNTS
Members receive discounts on all WMAIA programs.  Our chapter is committed to providing continuing education programs—necessary to maintain architectural registration in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts— locally and at a reasonable cost.  These include: dinner meetings; a winter professional development series; and co-sponsorship of lectures and symposiums at the University of Massachusetts. Dates and subject matter for upcoming events are included in the events section of this website.

WMAIA members also receive a discount to the annual ABX ArchitectureBoston Expo.

SUBSCRIPTIONS
Your WMAIA membership includes subscriptions to the following print periodicals as well as the electronic WMAIA enews and BSA Currents:
Architect magazine, a national magazine for the AIA, published on a monthly basis.
WMAIA News, the quarterly newsletter of the Western Massachusetts Chapter.
