WMAIA 2016 Design Awards
CITATION AWARD

Kuhn Riddle Architects, Amherst, MA

This project consists of 11 buildings with 42 affordable multifamily rental units and a community building. Rental units are one, two, and three-bedroom units. The site is developed along two axes, unified by a loop road which connects both. The main objective of the owner and architect was to create an accessible, affordable environment conducive to health, wellness, and a sense of community. Individual entrances are highlighted to nurture a sense of ownership and encourage stewardship of one’s unit. Porch spaces provide a bridge between public and private spaces. A trail connects the heart of the site to the surrounding woods and to other area trails.
