Plains Elementary School is Pre‐K to First Grade Elementary School designed as a cluster of sand colored two story forms or neighborhoods, gathered under two offset ribbon roofs.  The school is situated to the north‐west corner of a wooded parcel in South Hadley.  The massing interacts with a site plan that emphasizes earth forms and the natural movement of people and water across the landscape.  The architecture embraces daylighting and views of the woodlands.  The central gathering point in the school celebrates the nearby Holyoke Range in a stunning polished concrete floor pattern and monumental stairs.
