SUMMARY:BCT Educational Programs
DESCRIPTION:Register Now – Programs begin next Monday\, February 13th! \nWMAIA : Spring BCT Programs\nThese lectures and free and open to the public\, however\, registration and payment of fee is required if you want WMAIA to record the learning units. UMass faculty and staff requiring learning units may register here for no fee. When registering\, select the TOTAL # of programs (1\, 2\, 3 or all 4) that you plan to attend. \nMonday\, February 13| 4:00-5:15 | Zoom 1 HSW pending approval\nStorm Water Reuse in Large Commercial Buildings: An Engineering Perspective\nJake Littman\, Technical Principal\, WSP USA\nThe concept of storm water reuse is tantalizing and is conceptually low-hanging fruit in the reduction of building environmental impacts\, but what does it take to design and engineer building systems that capture\, treat\, and distribute storm water in a building? In this presentation\, Jake Littman will use real-world examples to bring to life the breadth\, scale\, and complexity inherent in storm water reuse\, practical implementation\, and the interplay of LEED and municipal requirements. \nMonday\, March 20| 4:00-5:15 | Zoom 1 HSW  approval pending\nStories in the Details – An Introduction to Forensic Investigations\nNikki Byl\, Senior Associate\, and specification coordinator with Wiss\, Janney Elstner (WJE) Associate Inc.\, and Josh Jaskowiak\, Associate\, WJE\nThis presentation by Nikki and Josh will introduce forensic investigations and the importance of details in the investigation of failures as told through case studies. Our four representative studies will include the facade rehabilitation of a signature historic university structure\, emergency stabilization of 26 Court Street in Boston\, a water leakage investigation at a medical center\, and a look at glazing failures at a Tadao Ando building in Williamstown Mass. \nMonday\, April 10 | 4:00-5:15 | Zoom 1 HSW  approval pending\nUniversity Design/Build Programs: How they work and what they are about\nKent Hicks\, ECO Professor\, Owner of East Branch Studio\nIn this lecture Kent Hicks discusses programs that offer the opportunity to explore a hands-on experience focusing on low-carbon and climate-positive construction using local\, natural\, and repurposed building materials; as well as learning about the critical importance of housing affordability and climate equity within the context of providing housing for communities in need. \nMonday\, May 8| 4:00-5:15 | Zoom 1 LU approval pending\nNoise\, Health\, and the Built Environment\nAndy Carballeira\, Principal Consultant ACENTECH\nNoise is an invisible environmental pollutant that threatens the health and well-being of people worldwide. Its effects are systemic and include hearing loss\, sleep disturbance\, stress\, cognitive deficits\, and childhood learning delays. Places where people live\, work\, and play must be designed to protect people from these harmful effects\, and the building’s façade has an important function to play. \nRegister Here
