The firm is a proponent of high thermal performance architecture, and its principal, Hicks Stone, is certified by the Passivhaus Institut. The passive house movement seeks to substantially reduce the carbon footprint of buildings by significantly reducing their energy consumption.
The firm is currently developing a combustion-free, net-zero energy, passive house residential development in Williamstown, MA under the affordable housing provisions of Chapter 40B of the Massachusetts General Laws.
