The Museum of Contemporary Art and Curatorial Study Center in Amherst, MA is a place for learning about the functions of a museum, a place for planning and assembling museum exhibitions, and a place where students and visitors can learn about and see first-hand, both exhibitions and the back-of-house services that make exhibitions possible. A wide variety of exhibition spaces welcomes students and visitors, encourages diversity of exhibitions, and inspires new ways of thinking about arts, media, and expression. Curatorial spaces are a resource for the entire university community, teaching spaces where students can learn means and methods for exhibiting a wide variety of art, scientific and historic collections at the university. The project is designed to take advantage of the remarkable qualities of a historic laboratory building on the site and the unique aspects of this welcoming public location in the University Arts District.
